DIRECTOR & CO-FOUNDER
Genny was born in Colorado but is a California girl at heart, she grew up in Ventura, CA before relocating to San Diego to attend college - Go Bulldogs! Genny has had a strong work ethic instilled in her from a young age, holding many jobs from waiting tables to pet sitting a dog on dialysis. At just 13 she was completing sleep trials at UCLA to earn her own spending money.
Genny’s compassionate qualities and life experiences directed her towards pursuing a career in the health sector. Genny lost her father Brad prematurely to Type II Diabetes and she has been positively influenced by her mother Aileen’s active and adventurous lifestyle. After receiving her Bachelor of Kinesiology from San Diego State University, Genny was awarded a Master of Science in Human Movement from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Arizona.
Starting out as a Personal Trainer, Genny taught Body Step at Total Women, Adult Fitness at SDSU and was a Physiotherapy Assistant in Rancho Bernardo for 3 years.
Before moving to Australia, Genny was employed as a Team Leader and Specialist at Project Walk Headquarters in San Diego. It was there that Genny recognised a need for a high quality spinal cord injury specialist rehabilitation centre in Australia to alleviate the financial burden many of her clients were experiencing due to the necessity of overseas travel for this level of treatment.
In 2013, Genny relocated to Australia to start Making Strides to help ensure that all Australians could have access to emerging rehabilitation methods without having to leave the country. Genny gets a natural high from watching her clients do and feel new sensations in their body from continuous training and lives for the feeling she gets from watching someone discover new capabilities.
While she couldn’t make the cheerleading squad, Genny maintains an active lifestyle that would make the most avid adventurer envious. She completed her first marathon at 18 with her mother, hiked the Grand Canyon in one day with her brother Jason, took her 83 year old Grandma midnight kayaking in Puerto Rico and is always on the lookout for her next challenge.
Genny may have her roots firmly planted in the USA but she has certainly cemented herself as the glue of Making Strides. Genny's vibrant and outgoing nature complement her unwavering compassion for everyone who may cross her path. Don't be fooled by her playful giggle, she has a wealth of knowledge and experience that enable her to lead a successful crew of Exercise Physiologists here at Making Strides.
